Canada's tax system is a self-reported based system. CRA does not require accounting firms to send supporting documents such as T2202A, rent receipts, proof of medical insurance and expenses etc. when you are filing tax. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the system, CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) randomly selects people and asks to provide supporting documents. If you are requested to send proof, it is not indicative of any issues with filling. It simply means that your file was randomly selected for review. It is important for you to send supporting documents requested by CRA.

Keeping your tax records is important to support the information you have provided to the CRA. The CRA recommends keeping your tax records for at least six years.

This six year period starts at the end of the tax year to which the records relate. Tax records include your returns and supporting documentation used to prepare them such as expense receipts, all T slips, charitable donation, medical expenses, etc
